Coach Mathieson is entering his 10th year as head coach and 11th year as Athletic Director for MVHS. Previously he was Athletic Director at Meridian High School in Bellingham, Washington. He also spent three years as an assistant coach at Western Washington University (2004-2006). He spent two seasons as the Vikings quarterback coach before moving to the defensive side of the ball to tutor linebackers and coordinate the special teams units. He also served as the teams Academic Coordinator. Coach Mathieson was the Head coach at Ferndale High School in 2003, directing the Golden Eagles to a 9-2 record, a Northwest League title and a quarterfinal round appearance in the Class 3A State Playoffs. The team received the John R. Trotto Team Sportsmanship Award and Adam was named Washington State Football Coaches Association District 1 and Northwest League Coach of the Year.  Prior to being named Head Coach at Ferndale, he was an assistant coach at FHS for four years. He also assisted in track and field for four seasons at Ferndale and spent one year as an assistant at Squalicum High School in Bellingham. Overall, Coach Mathieson has been a Head Football coach for 10 seasons, compiling a 66-36 overall record (41-15 League Record), three league championships, seven post season berths, two top 5 state finishes, 5 coach of the year awards, including the prestigious 2015 United States Marine Corps and Glazier Football Clinics Semper Fi Coaches award, and two separate team sportsmanship awards.  He completed his Masters degree in education (guidance and counseling) from City University in 2004; received bachelor's degree in history from Western in 1999 and obtained teaching certificate in 2000. He was also a  three year football letter winner at WWU.
